WESTCOTT WINS NATIONAL HEALTHY SCHOOLS' COMPETITION

You may have seen articles in the press or heard radio broadcasts about Westcott winning the Discovery Vitality Healthy Schools Competition. We have had a tremendous amount of publicity recently!

We are thrilled with our school's achievement in winning this competition. This is a huge team effort by all staff, parents and children, but special mention must be made of Ms Benjafield and her Grade 4A class, who were responsible for entering our school into this competition. We thank Ms B. and her class, as well as Mr Cuff and Ms Rice for their input. We also wish to thank Mrs Nicholson, one of our parents, who informed us about the competition.

On Thursday, 24 November, we held a celebratory assembly at which representatives from Discovery Vitality health handed over the cheque of R25 000 to our school. We shall be using this money to erect an exercise track around the school field.

At Westcott we all have a commitment to nurture and develop a healthy environment for the boys and girls, staff and parents. This involves health in the broadest sense of the term, including our physical, spiritual, social, emotional and mental health, as well as outreach programmes to the community.

We are very proud of our achievement and we thank all of the members of the Westcott family for your support. We now need to further develop and expand on this initiative.

Yours sincerely

J B Robertson
Principal
